Arizona Photonics Days/SPIE Photonics West Preview

Arizona Photonics Days/Photonics West

OptiPro will be participating in two upcoming online events that focus on the latest optics and photonics technologies: Arizona Photonics Days from March 3-5, and SPIE Photonics West Digital Forum from March 6-11.

Arizona Photonics Days is a virtual conference held prior to SPIE Photonics West – March 3-5, 2021. This event gives you the opportunity to engage with your peers and industry leaders for technical discussions, industry trends, and virtual business connections with global attendees. There is no cost to attend this conference.

The focus of this year’s conference will be expanding the scope of optics and photonics technologies in industrial and commercial applications in Sensing and Metrology, Astronomy, Quantum Technology, Laser Technology, and Biomedical Technology.

OptiPro will be participating in the Sensing and Metrology track by giving a presentation on “Non-Contact Metrology with Datum Structures for Freeform Components.”

Presentation: Non-Contact Metrology with Datum Structures for Freeform Components

UltraSurf Freeform Metrology PresentationAbstract: Freeform optical component applications are rising in the precision optics and photonics industry. The complex nature of freeform optics reduces number of metrology options. Measurement of freeform surfaces is traditionally limited to coordinate measuring machines or computer-generated holograms. OptiPro has developed UltraSurf, a non-contact metrology platform that has been adapted to measuring freeform surfaces. The non-contact probing method, and multiple axes of motion allow UltraSurf to scan freeform optical surfaces and the associated datum structures. Datum structures define a coordinate system that the freeform surfaces of a component can be referenced for metrology and manufacturing. Measuring the datums along with the surface provides an absolute reference for the form error map, aiding the manufacturing of the optical surfaces and assembly of the final product. Particularly in applications where traditional data and image fiducial techniques struggle. Practical examples of non-contact freeform metrology with the UltraSurf will be presented along with considerations for the importance and design of datum features.

The SPIE Photonics West Digital Forum is the world’s premier lasers, biomedical optics, and optoelectronics event: online and on-demand from March 6-11. The online event features live plenary talks, on-demand technical presentations and discussions, online networking and special events, and a digital marketplace showcasing product demonstrations and business connections.

As an exhibiting company in the Photonics West Marketplace, OptiPro will be available during the Digital Forum to showcase our latest optical manufacturing and metrology solutions — watch product demonstrations, connect in one-on-one conversations, and view videos featuring machines that will advance your optical production capabilities.

The focus of OptiPro’s product demonstration is “Increase Optics Production with User-Friendly Robot Automation.”

Product Demo: Increase Optics Production with User-Friendly Robot Automation

Automation Demo

Watch the simple process of setting up and programming a fully automated optical grinding process. Using remote automation software that communicates with OptiPro’s G Series lens grinding software, the collaborative robot (cobot) arm will automatically pick up a blank from the part tray and load it into the self-clamping chuck. The PRO 160 GTS optical grinding machine will subsequently perform rough and fine grinding of a convex spherical surface. The machine will then perform in-situ probing of the surface before the cobot consecutively unloads the ground part and loads a new blank using dual grippers. The cobot will then place the ground part into the part tray and pick up a new lens for the next grinding cycle. By supplementing your workforce with robot automation, you can increase throughput, lower operating costs and enhance your bottom line, all while freeing your technicians from doing repetitive tasks so they can focus on more challenging responsibilities that are more valuable to your company’s future success.
